What is home care, and what does it include?

That includes personal care like bathing and dressing, companionship, meal prep, light housekeeping, medication reminders, transportation, and overnight or 24/7 support. It is non-medical care focused on safety, comfort, and independence at home.

What is the difference between home care and home health care?

Home care provides non-medical daily support and is typically paid for privately or through long-term care insurance. Home health care delivers skilled medical services like nursing or physical therapy, ordered by a doctor and often covered by Medicare. Many families use both at different times.

How do I know if my parent needs home care?

Common signs include difficulty with meals, bathing, or housekeeping, missed medications, unexplained weight loss, withdrawing from social activities, or a recent fall or hospital stay. If you are noticing these changes, a conversation about home care is worth having.

How much does home care cost in North Metro Atlanta?

Our rate typically falls between $30–$40 per hour, depending on the level of care needed and your schedule. Every family's situation is different, so the right starting point is a conversation about your loved one's needs. Does Medicare cover home care?

Medicare does not cover non-medical home care. Castleton is a private-pay agency, and we also work with long-term care insurance. We don't bill Medicare, Medicaid, or VA benefits directly, but we're happy to walk through your long-term care policy's home care benefits with you.

Will my loved one have the same caregiver each visit?

Your loved one will have a primary caregiver, supported by a small, consistent, fully-briefed team for backup coverage. We match caregivers based on personality, needs, and schedule, because trust is built through familiarity.

How do I choose the right home care agency?

Look for an agency licensed by the state, with RN oversight, thorough caregiver screening and training, and a clear plan for communication and backup coverage. Ask how caregivers are matched, what happens if one calls out, and how the care plan adapts as needs change. The right agency will welcome every question.

What happens if our caregiver is sick or on vacation?

Your care continues without interruption. Because your loved one is supported by a small, consistent team rather than a single caregiver, someone familiar is always available to step in. We will let you know in advance when a backup caregiver is coming. You may also choose to wait for your primary caregiver to return.

Home care was personal to us before it became our business.

When my grandmother reached her mid-90s, my family turned to home care so she could stay in the house she loved. I saw firsthand what the right caregiver means for someone’s comfort, safety, and independence, and how hard it is when care feels inconsistent or impersonal.

That experience changed my life. I left my corporate career, became a Certified Nursing Assistant, and Ashton and I started Castleton: the kind of local agency we would have trusted with our own family.

Today we’re still personally involved in every client’s care. Families reach us directly, decisions are made locally, and every caregiver is held to the standard we’d expect in our own home.
